Nikki Reed: A Biography
Nikki Reed, born Nicole Houston Reed on May 17, 1988, is an American actress and screenwriter. She was born in West Los Angeles, California, to interior designer Seth Reed and his wife, cosmetologist Cheryl Houston. Nikki has an older brother named Nathan. Her father is Jewish, while her mother has a mixed heritage of Cherokee Native American and Italian blood. Although she did not receive a religious education, Nikki was surrounded by a predominantly Jewish environment, and her brother even had a bar mitzvah.
Early Life and Career
Nikki Reed describes her life as quite complex. Her parents divorced when she was only two years old, and she was raised by her mother. For a while, she was a quiet, high-achieving student, but at the age of twelve, something changed in her, and she became a rebellious teenager. Naturally, her relationship with her mother deteriorated, and by the age of fourteen, Nikki was living independently and was self-sufficient. At the time, she had no particular desire to become an actress.
In 2003, Nikki Reed gained recognition after co-writing the semi-autobiographical screenplay for the film "Thirteen." She also had the opportunity to act in the movie, which starred Evan Rachel Wood. The film received positive reviews, and Nikki gained recognition as both an actress and a screenwriter. Shortly after the film's release, she appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and attended various award ceremonies, including the 2003 Young Hollywood Awards and the West Independent Spirits Awards.
Rise to Fame
Nikki Reed continued to portray sexually liberated teenage characters, such as her role in "Lords of Dogtown," directed by Catherine Hardwicke. In early 2006, she appeared in the television series "The O.C." as Sadie, a love interest for the character Ryan Atwood. Despite not agreeing with the values promoted by the show, Nikki agreed to take on the role based on her agents' recommendation. Coincidentally, her future "Twilight" co-stars, Cam Gigandet and Jackson Rathbone, also joined the series around the same time. She even shared a scene with Gigandet, hinting at their characters' past relationship.
One of Nikki Reed's most successful works was her role in the film "Mini's First Time," which was released in limited theaters in July 2006. The film included sex scenes involving Reed's character, but since she was only sixteen at the time, the law required that her scenes be filmed from behind. In February 2008, it was announced that Nikki would portray Rosalie Hale in the film adaptation of "Twilight." Despite her natural brunette hair, she was cast as the blond vampire Rosalie. She reprised the role in the sequels "New Moon," "Eclipse," and "Breaking Dawn."
Nikki Reed's career has spanned various genres and roles, showcasing her versatility as an actress. She continues to work in both film and television, exploring different creative pursuits.
